ROVERS LEGEND #6:BRIAN DEANE

Yorkshireman Brian Deane has had an eventful career which has even taken him to Portugal.

Leeds born and bred,Brian signed a professional contract with Doncaster in 1985.The 6'3" striker was at Belle Vue for three years before he attracted interest from Sheffield United.

The Blades signed Brian in 1988 for £40,000.He was infamous during his time in Sheffield for scoring the first ever Premier League goal in August 1992-a header against Manchester United.

In 1993,he moved to Leeds for a record of £2.9 million.He spent four seasons at his hometown club before returning back to Sheffield United.In 1998,Brian moved to Portuguese side Benfica.He played 18 games and scored 7 goals in Portugal.

The same year,he signed for Middlesbrough and left them for Leicester in 2001,where he scored 19 goals in 52 games.He then had brief spells at West Ham,a return to Leeds,Perth Glory and a brief return to Bramall Lane.

Following his retirement,Brian has campaigned against racism in football and worked with the PFA.He became a manager in 2012 after being made the new head coach of Norwegian second tier side Sparsborg 08.
