Sam was born Adrian Samuel Hird.He played Sunday League football for several clubs in Doncaster to start his career.His younger brother Stephen played part-time but now studies in South Africa.
Sam signed as a U15 player for Aston Villa in 2001 and spent five years at Villa Park.He left the club for Leeds in 2006.
Sam joined Doncaster in May 2007 after leaving Leeds.He broke into the side at a quick rate and was part of the team who were promoted in 2008.
The homegrown lad then partnered fellow defender George Friend in 2010 when the latter signed for Doncaster from Wolves.However,after relegation to the third tier in 2012,he was released along with others.The others included James Chambers,James Hayter and Mustapha Dumbuya.
Following his release,Sam moved to Chesterfield in June 2012 and is currently the captain.As of August 2013,he has made 65 appearances.
He lives in Doncaster with his girlfriend Francesca and their son Harrison(3)
