Doncaster took the lead after five minutes, with Paul Keegan slotting the ball under Ben Hamer.
Ten minutes later, the rain started and it gradually became heavier. The conditions on the pitch became tougher, but Doncaster were able to extend the lead thanks to Chris Brown after eighteen minutes.
The ball was struggling to roll and parts of the pitch were becoming difficult.Brown, who is on fine form, made it 3-0 though with a header.
With only half an hour played, the referee stopped play with the rain lashing down. The groundsmen were busy on the pitch trying to remove the water, whilst both Charlton boss Chris Powell and Rovers' Rob Jones spoke with the officials.
Eventually, the game was given the go-ahead.Whatever did get said during the stoppage had an effect on Charlton.Simon Church struck a low ball under Turnbull after thirty-six minutes.
Shortly after Keegan was dismissed, the referee called the game off with the rain continuing to pour.
