DONCASTER ROVERS 0-2 OLDHAM ATHELTIC

Oldham claimed their first win of the season away at Doncaster in the weekend leading up to the international break and move out of the relegation zone.

Oldham scored with the game only three minutes long.A freekick wasn't dealt with by the home defence and JONSON CLARKE-HARRIS pounced on the chance to score, striking into the back of the net.

It took twenty minutes for Doncaster to fully respond to going 1-0 down.Coppinger's low drive was blocked by James Wilson and Luke McCullough headed a corner over the bar in a half that Oldham seemed to control.

Cédric Evina created a better chance.Reece Wabara held back for the Frenchman to let rip from the edge of the area, only for Paul Rachubka to be equal to it.Half time, and Paul Dickov's former club were haunting him.

Doncaster started off the second half a lot better and had listened in the team talk.In the first ten minutes,Tyson headed just wide from a cross and Marc De Val Fernandez hit a volley over the bar;a very hopeful start to say the least.

After fifty-eight minutes,Oldham won a penalty and it was a former Rovers player who took it-JONATHON FORTE.The striker had three loan spells at Doncaster and he cooly slotted the penalty into the net and double the lead.

Harry Forrester, back from injury, whipped a cross in for Coppinger but he missed completely.Twenty minutes were left to play and nothing was to come.

The last few chances all fell to Doncaster in desperation, but they weren't taken well and gave Lee Johnson's side a happy trip back to Lancashire.

VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
DONCASTER BOSS PAUL DICKOV

"We were very complacent in the game and I'm annoyed that the players had that attitude.Perhaps we should've freshened it up a little bit because we huffed and puffed at it."

"I want to use this international break to sort out my squad and teams. We need to change the system."

"League One is difficult to compete in because teams in the lower half want to beat the big shots. We had a good Tuesday night but today we looked uneasy."

OLDHAM BOSS LEE JOHNSON

"That win was for the fans if anything. They wanted us to show something and we produced."

"It's a relief for us.New principles have been implemented and we were very good out there. Now we have the monkey off our back,it's better."

OPPONENTS GUIDE:OLDHAM ATHELTIC

Oldham Atheltic are the next team to visit South Yorkshire and will no doubt want to claim their first win of the season at Doncaster. It's also the club Paul Dickov began his managerial career at,and the club Donny midfielder Dean Furman joined in 2008 as a youngster from Rangers.

Nicknamed 'The Latics',Oldham Atheltic originally were called Pine Villa FC and were set up in 1895.They played in local leagues around Greater Manchester to begin with. When Oldham County were formed in 1899,Pine Villa FC became Oldham Athletic FC and they moved location to the Oldham Athletic Ground(now Boundary Park).

After gaining acceptance to the Football League in 1907,they gained promotion in 1910 to the First Division.Oldham then got to the quarter finals of the FA Cup in 1914 and any further success was halted by the First World War.

Oldham were relegated to the Second Division in 1923 and it would be another seven decades before they were back in the big time.Their next successes came in the 1970s,winning two promotions back to the Second Division after relegations. In 1982,Joe Royle became manager and reached the playoffs in 1987.Their next success was a Football League Cup final against Nottingham Forest in 1990.

The club returned to the newly-named Premier League in 1992.After two seasons,Oldham were relegated and Royle resigned as boss to move to Everton.During his era,Oldham had reached the FA Cup semi final twice.

In 2001,Chris Moore became owner and chairman of Oldham and wanted Oldham back in the Premier League. However, despite the efforts of Mick Wadsworth and then Iain Dowie, this wasn't fulfilled.Moore left the club, and debt followed.Simon Blitz became chairman in 2004.

Since then,Oldham struggled in the fight to stay up.Former Rovers boss Dave Penney was named manager in 2009 but was sacked in 2010 to make way for Paul Dickov, who was player-manager.Shortly after Oldham knocked Liverpool out of the FA Cup,he resigned and was replaced by Lee Johnson.

THE GAFFER LEE JOHNSON

Johnson is the youngest manager in the Football League at the age of 33.As a player,he was a prolific midfielder who developed a good reputation over the years.

He started out as a youngster at Arsenal and then Watford, who were then managed by his father Gary.He left Watford in 2000 and had a spell at Brighton.

After leaving Brighton,he reunited with his father at Yeovil Town, winning the FA Vase in 2002 and then the Conference title in 2003.This was Yeovil's first ever promotion to the Football League. He then won promotion to League One in 2005,before leaving the club in 2006 to have a short spell at Hearts in Scotland.

He left Hearts in June 2006 to rejoin his father who was now at Bristol City.He was a popular character on the pitch and was part of the team who reached the Championship playoffs in 2008,only to lose to Hull.

He spent time at Derby County and then Chesterfield in 2010 and departed Ashton Gate in 2012 to join Kilmarnock where he won the Scottish Cup,assisting the winner in the final.

After leaving the club in 2013,he soon was named Oldham Atheltic manager after beating 120 candidates to the job.At just 31,he was the youngest manager in England's leagues. He played against his father Gary in April 2013 and won 1-0,keeping Oldham in League One.

Former Sheffield Wednesday striker John Sheridan joined Doncaster in 1998 in the latter stages of his career. He left after six months to join Oldham and spent six years in Lancashire, eventually retiring in 2003 aged 39.

He then managed Oldham from 2007 to 2009.

TYSON:'WE ARE OVER LAST SEASON'

Nathan Tyson believes that last season'd painful relegation has been a huge motivation for Doncaster Rovers this season and has driven them to be better.

"We are now over last season's events and what happens in the past should stay in the past as far as we are concerned",he explains.

"This season,we've got to improve and realise now that we've really seen life really isn't fair due to the circumstances of the relegation and the fact is was goal difference."

"The manager and team have positive views of the future here and want to achieve them."

WATFORD 1-2 DONCASTER ROVERS

Doncaster Rovers progressed to the third round of the Capital One Cup after a surprising 2-1 win away at Watford, whose unbeaten start to the season has come to an end.

Lewis McGugan was running the show for the first twenty minutes with his chances. The midfielder struck the crossbar and then hit his freekick wide of the mark.Watford looked like a team who were unbeaten.

It was Doncaster who drew first blood though.Kyle Bennett missed a good chance but it was a penalty by NATHAN TYSON that made it 1-0.Former Rovers player Gabriel Tamas tripped over Bennett after fourteen minutes and Tyson blasted the ball into the net.

After half an hour,LLOYD DYER scored an equalising goal for Guiseppe Sannino's side.Dyer hit his shot low and hard under a powerless loanee goalkeeper Jed Steer.

Doncaster had some more chances, with Evina heading a corner over the bar and James Coppinger hit a shot wide of the goal.Half time, and it was all-square.

In the second half,Watford drove more effort into the match and pushed forward but Doncaster took the lead.Youngster LIAM WAKEFIELD scored his second Doncaster career goal with a tap-in from four yards. There was no stopping the goal at all.

Watford came under heavy pressure and couldn't withstand it at all.Wabara found Furman and he cut through only for his ideas to be foiled by Jonathon Bond.

Both teams had last gasp chances,,but it's a fourth straight away win for Paul Dickov's side.

WATFORD BOSS GUISEPPE SANNINO

"I'm so disappointed.Doncaster were the better team and rightly won the match."

"For me,the fans should feel the most disappointed as they sung their hearts out for us."

DONCASTER BOSS PAUL DICKOV

"Paul Keegan and Richie Wellens are expected to sign new deals with us and this is good news.Paul will pen a three-year deal and we are yet to decide with Richie."

"The pressure was off us and we were comparable to Watford with our superb forms at the start. It was all to play for and we gained everything from the game."

COLCHESTER UNITED 0-1 DONCASTER ROVERS

Kyle Bennett's goal was enough to send Doncaster eighth in League One,whereas lowly Colchester still are yet to win the league after the result at The Weston Homes Community Stadium.

After fifteen minutes of the game,Freddie Sears created enough build-up for George Moncur to head the ball. The West Ham academy loanee was unlucky not to make ends meet and missed the chance.Colchester countered a few minutes later through Jabo Ibehre, who slotted the ball to Sears who laid it off Moncur but his shot was tipped over.

Colchester didn't look like a side in the relegation zone with only one point.Magnus Okuonghae headed a corner onto the bar in what was good dominance by the U's.

In the second half,Marcus Bean's injection of pace was met by Sears. The striker was unlucky not to score and it was looking more and more promising for the home side.Ibehre,on the hour mark, struck a freekick straight at the goalkeeper.Colchester hadn't let Doncaster have one proper chance yet.

Just when Colcheter looked more lively,KYLE BENNETT opened the scoring for Doncaster with a low shot after sixty-five minutes which evaded the defence.

In the last ten minutes,Doncaster really dominated the game and controlled the play.Robinson had a chance to kill the game off with a run into the box but Sam Walker blocked it.

VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
COLCHESTER BOSS JOE DUNNE

"We aren't anxious about the first win because I feel as though it'll come sooner rather than later.Performance is key in this game and we perform well."

"If we lose,I'm judged for it but if we win then I guess it's papering over the cracks a little bit on our behalf. That's the general reaction amongst the fans and it doesn't bother me."

"It's my job to keep Colchester United a stable club in this league and we are doing that gradually."

DONCASTER MIDFIELDER JAMES COPPINGER

"Colchester tested us in the first half and had the better chances,it has to be said."

"We are just very glad that we managed to pull through and win the game even though it was made difficult at times for us."

GETTIN AWAY:COLCHESTER UNITED

The last time Doncaster visited the Weston Homes Community Stadium in September 2012,they were 2-1 winners. Not only did that give us three points but it cost John Ward his job at the Essex club.

Saturday's game is our first return since then. Here is how to get there.

TRAIN

Colchester North is the nearest station to the stadium and is two miles away.It takes ten minutes to get there.A shuttle bus operates from the station to the stadium from Bruff Close. To get to it,leave the station and turn left, taking the second left at the roundabout. The buses park behind the "Big Yellow" storage centre. It runs from 1pm and it's a £2 return.

PRE-MATCH PINT

There is little choice of pubs with the stadium located on the outskirts of the town. The Dog and Pheasant is popular but it only admits home fans. The best thing to do is not to wear your colours for this pub and you'll be admitted fine.A fig and chip shop is opposite it.

The Norfolk Arms and a Greene King pub are next to the station.

PARKING

A lot of fans tend to park at the station and get the bus to save time.If you wish to park in the ground, there are 700 available spaces and it's £6 for a ticket. There is another car park on a nearby industrial estate and local businesses nearby offer parking for £5.

DONCASTER ROVERS 1-1 PRESTON NORTH END

Preston Chris Humphrey's volley was cancelled out late on by Nathan Tyson, with the away side surely to be promotion candidates this season.

Doncaster suffered an injury to Rob Jones early on with what looks like a neck problem;more worries for the defence at the Keepmoat. He was replaced by young Liam Wakefield.

Preston knew they needed to attack hard if they want to continue their chances of a promotion, and they did so.Tom Clarke headed into Jed Steer's hands and a free kick by Joe Garner went high and wide.

In the final ten minutes of the first half,Chris Humphrey tested Jed Steer's reflexes and Joe Garner, looking to celebrate signing a new deal in Lancashire, headed the ball onto the bar.

In the second half,Marc De Val Fernandez wanted to score from fourty yards. He hit it over Jamie Jones' bar though just before Paul Gallagher struck his half-volley into the away end.

A goal soon followed, and CHRIS HUMPHREY had to take a bow for it.A Gallagher freekick was punched by Steer,Wabara cleared it as far as Josh Brownhill who saw Humphrey on the edge of the area. The midfielder drilled it into the top left.

Preston then had the upper hand.Jack King ran with the ball and crossed to Gallagher, whose shot was hit wide.Little then found the ball but couldn't connect with ten minutes left.

NATHAN TYSON levelled it up in stoppage time though.Jones got a hand to a looping Bennett cross, but it wasn't strong enough for him and Tyson waited to slot it home.

DONCASTER ROVERS 1-3 PORT VALE

Port Vale'd first half brace was too much for Doncaster, who see their unbeaten start to the season ended by the Stoke side.

The first goal of the game fell to BEN WILLIAMSON,who scored his first ever professional career hattrick on Tuesday night against Hartlepool United.Williamson tapped in Chris Lines' rebounded header to give his side the lead with under half an hour gone.

Vale doubled the lead ten minutes later through striker TOM POPE.Pope slotted a neat finish under Jed Steer and scored his fourth goal in two games;a good start for him.CARL DICKINSON tripled the lead before the break with a low shot from a corner.

With Doncaster going into the second half trailing heavily,Harry Forrester looked like he could make an impact. He ran into the box and struck a low shot wide of the post.

Port Vale then pressurized from corners.Marshall struck a shot high and wide and Pope headed over from an O'Connor cross.

KYLE BENNETT scored a consolation goal on 75 minutes, but it wasn't enough to see Rovers through.Harry Forrester was later sent off for a foul.

VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
DONCASTER BOSS PAUL DICKOV

"It's a bit of a harsh shoreline but we were outdone by a very good side at the end of the day."

"The manner we lost the goals with two corners and a throw-in is really poor from our point of view. People have designated roles in the team, they didn't fulfil that and you get punished for it."

York had the first chance.Anthony Straker found the ball well on the left wing and dribbled into the box, only to strike his shot high into the home end at Bootham Cresent. With fifteen minutes played, the latter missed the target.

Doncaster had a few shots of their own.Coppinger struck the ball straight at York goalkeeper Jason Mooney.Curtis Main then hit a low shot wide of the mark.Luke McCullough headed wide with ten minutes of the first half left.

York played more attacking football in the second half.Russell Penn tested Jed Steer's reflexes early on,forcing the loanee goalkeeper into full stretch.Michael Coulson then began to cause problems with his trickery, but Steer was on his toes to deny the striker.

Forrester came on with ten minutes left and immediately stamped his mark on the game.A chip over the onrushing goalkeeper went over, but only just.

In three minutes of added time, former bartender Mooney thought there'd be an extra thirty minutes with closing time looming. He was wrong-HARRY FORRESTER scored a winner from the edge of the area.

York need to bounce back and focus on the league, but it's round two for Doncaster.

YORK CITY MANAGER NIGEL WORTHINGTON

“Over the last two games, it shows you how cruel the game of football can be. We have to live with that. There is a lot from that game to take away and get ready for Saturday. We conceded late on at Tranmere and it was tough."

"Obviously the players are disappointed. They put in a lot of hard work. The shape of the team was very good and everyone knew their role."

“They performed at their maximum against a League One side and came away with nothing. That’s the game. It is about how you bounce back.”

DONCASTER BOSS PAUL
DICKOV

"Winning the game tonight was vital on our half.We eventually did it but not the easiest of ways."

"Forrester has a lot of good quality about him and wants to score a lot of goals which is what he did."

YEOVIL TOWN 0-3 DONCASTER ROVERS

Doncaster began the 2014/15 season in the perfect fashion by beating fellow relegation partners Yeovil 3-0 on a sunny West Country day.

After eight minutes,Donny took the lead through new striker CURTIS MAIN.The former Middlesbrough youth player lobbed over the advancing Chris Weale, who was part of the original Yeovil side who beat Doncaster in 2003 to earn promotion to the Football League.

Yeovil then created some chances but to no avail.Sam Foley found Moore in the box but his header was miles off target. With twenty minutes played,Aaron Martin hit the side of the netting from a corner.

In the second half,Yeovil had to react quickly early on to deny Nathan Tyson's low shot from going in.Martin had to scramble the ball off the line and James Coppinger's curling shot was punched away by Weale.

Doncaster doubled the lead with half an hour left.HARRY FORRESTER rounded Weale after a good run and tucked the ball home.2-0,much to Yeovil boss Gary Johnson's despair.

Late on,former Doncaster player and late sub James Hayter hit the bar with a curling header. But it was soon 3-0 and game over after THEO ROBINSON scored.Yeovil now need to focus on their cup game on Tuesday.

"We had a great crowd come in so hopefully they won't give up on us just yet."

DONCASTER BOSS PAUL DICKOV

"Most of the squad haven't had a full season of training and exercise and they came out today to win. That surprised me yet made me impressed."

"The more we play, the better we'll get."
