ROVERS LEGEND #22:SEAN McDAID

Sean was a promising defender due to his success with the Scotland U17,U18 and U20 international squads, catching the attention of some clubs.

The 5"9' defender was born in Harrogate in 1987.He joined George Graham's Leeds United team as a youth player in 1999 aged 12.He was rarely seen around the club and never made it to the big time like former United defender Rio Ferdinand, who he idolised.

Aged 18,he joined Doncaster on a free transfer in 2005 and was unknown by the fans. However,Dave Penney and Sean O'Driscoll worked with him to create a talented team member. He looked very keen, and was voted the Young Player of the Season in 2006.

In the later seasons,he was opted to become a defensive midfielder or a sweeper. In Doncaster's 2007/08 promotion season,he was used as a substitute and rarely as a starting player. He found the Championship too fast and hard to get a game out of,so was released in May 2010.
Soon after,Carlisle United snapped him up on a two-year-deal.But he struggled with knee injuries and was out for months with them.In March 2011,he was forced to retire from playing due to a persistent injury.

He now lives in Halifax.
