The ex-England boss,52,was in charge of Forest for only 122 days, winning only two games in his tenure in 2011.He had made several signings but they had little effect.
The appointment came just a matter of months after he lost his job at Wolfsburg in Germany. The club had won the 2010/11 title but were relegation candidates under McClaren. He also won the Eredivise title with Twente.
"My family handled my job well",McClaren said,"Two of my three children are adults now but the youngest is doing his A-Levels.Moving about countries affected this a lot. When I was at Wolfsburg,we lived together in Germany."
"My job now at Derby should see stability.I hope to be more careful and not fall at the first hurdle."
