Wigan's FA Cup success at Wembley last season couldn't stop them from being relegated from the top flight. They rebuilt the squad for the Championship under the new management of Owen Coyle. They also had the country's oldest fan-Tom Gill, who passed away last year aged 102.He had supported Wigan for 96 years.
But five months later,Coyle was fired and the replacement is a face who will want to forget about Doncaster's promotion more than anyone else-Brentford boss Uwe Rösler.
Rösler has since been unbeaten in the league as the Wigan boss. This will make matters tough on Saturday.
THE GROUND-THE DW STADIUM
The DW was built in 1999.Until the demise of JJB Sports, the stadium was called the JJB Stadium. The ground was renamed in 2009 after the initials of chairman and former player Dave Whelan.
It was the smallest stadium in the Premier League with a capacity of 25,000.In 2008,Wigan Warriors RFC agreed a groundshare with the football club and play their home games at the DW,when Wigan Athletic don't play.
THE GAFFER-UWE RÖSLER
East German Rösler has had a varied career both in Germany,England and briefly in Norway where he coached.
After he worked for the secret police in the Eastern side of Germany as a teenager,he joined Leipzig as a trialist before he went to Dinamo Dresden as a young adult. His big move came in 1994 to Manchester City and his reputation grew for his skills as a midfielder.
He left City in 1998.He went back to Germany to have spells at Kaiserslautern and a club in Berlin. He returned to Southampton in 2000 and then to Norway's Lillestrøm,but he fell ill with cancer.
He recovered from cancer and his coaching badges.Lillestrøm made him their boss in 2005 and won the league with them.He then moved to Viking in 2006 and left in 2009,citing personal reasons. His next managerial post was for a few months at Molde but he was sacked.
He retuned to England again for Brentford in League One.Playoff finals came and the big singings. He came within one penalty of the Championship in April 2013,but it was missed and Rovers infamously capitalised on the mistake to score.Best not remind him.
When Coyle left,Rösler became Wigan manager in December 2013.He is currently unbeaten in the league.
