Chris Brown scored the only goal as Doncaster beat their local rivals Sheffield Wednesday, sending Paul Dickov's side eight points clear from the drop.

Wednesday missed the golden chance of the match.Leon Best shot wide from close range with Johnstone totally unaware.

The goal came through a period of withstanding the washout of rain on the field.Billy Sharp struck the ball underneath former Donny loanee Kirkland. With Lewis Buxton creeping up,CHRIS BROWN had to tap the ball into the goal.

The Owls want to keep up tier revival and nearly did.Albanian forward Nuhiu missed the header from a corner and Kieran Lee produced a fine save from Sam Johnstone with five minutes to go.

Johnstone was back with his wonders, punching away a twenty-yard hit from Maguire after neat setup work by Hutchinson.

With twenty minutes left,Glenn Loovens headed wide and Benik Afobe clattered into Sam Johnstone, injuring him.He soon recovered and was back playing.

The result was damaging for Wednesday but it's all smiles for Paul Dickov.

VIEWS FROM THE TOUCHLINE

DONCASTER BOSS PAUL DICKOV
"It's a combination of the clean sheet and the win that please me in particular.Individuals yet again played well  out there."

"James Coppinger is a good professional in terms of his attitude and can achieve anything. He and Chris Brown were superb."

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY BOSS STUART GRAY
“If you take your chances you win games and I’m sure, with the way we were playing, I would be talking here about three points instead of no points."

“Doncaster had one real chance in the first half and although we thought the lad Brown was offside, they took it."

The thing that's annoying me and the team is that we know we are better than that."
