LEEDS UNITED 1-2 DONCASTER ROVERS

Torrid times at Leeds are getting worse. They face a possible ten point deduction and they're losing over £1,000,000 a month according to reports. The 2-1 defeat to Doncaster hasn't helped.

Fans showed their anger towards the board through chanting in the first half. The chanting did nothing to stop Doncaster from scoring after twenty three minutes at Elland Road.DAVID COTTERILL fired a free kick from twenty yards into the net.

Leeds had some better chances after going behind, with top scorer Ross McCormack missing the target. The goals he's scored could prove crucial if Leeds are to see some positivity.

It worsened for Leeds when BILLY SHARP made it 2-0 before the break. The striker fired under the goalkeeper in stoppage time.

The first fifteen minutes saw Leeds have several penalty shouts go against them.Sam Johnstone tripped up Matt Smith in the area but nothing was given.Sam Byram felt more annoyed when Coppinger smashed his arm into his face.

Leeds did pull it back to 2-1 thanks to ROSS McCORMACK's header.A cross into the box wasn't marked and the Scot headed home to set up a tense remainder.

Leeds continued to show more initiative in their play, and Smith had a header tipped over by Johnstone. The 21-year-old is finding form at last in his career.

The latter also had to punch a shot by Jason Pearce over the crossbar but it was the 724 away fans who roared at the whistle.Doncaster look more likely to stay up and Leeds seemed depleted

VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

LEEDS UNITED BOSS BRIAN McDERMOTT
"The court hearing over our financial situation is on Monday. The focus is and has been on that for most of the week and today,in hindsight, wasn't too important."

"Once the issues here are solved,we can feel settled at last.Forget about me.The priority is the club."

DONCASTER BOSS PAUL DICKOV
"The only word I can use is brilliant. The whole team as a unit were simply that."

"We are closer to safety in the league thankfully and the fans are urging us on to do more and keep going which I feel is so vital."

"You can't talk about staying up just yet because I don't know about that.We have no points target."

Paul Dickov has confirmed Doncaster Rovers have signed veteran Australian defender Lucas Neill on a one-month loan from Watford.

He will feature possibly against Leeds on Saturday.

BURNLEY 2-0 DONCASTER ROVERS

Burnley increase the pressure on the leaders Leicester City with a 2-0 win against Doncaster Rovers on a cold Lancashire night.

Doncaster started off the better side after Mark Duffy's curling shot hit the bar.Junior Stanislas then tested Sam Johnstone on the goalkeeper's 21st birthday.

On thirty-five minutes,Jones made Johnstone spill a loose ball to find Vokes in the box.Superb reflexes kept the scores at 0-0 much to Paul Dickov's delight at half-time.

Two minutes after kicking off,Burnley were awarded a penalty for a foul on Sam Vokes.VOKES took it and scored from the spot to break the deadlock.

Burnley kept creating chances and stopped Doncaster completely.Stanislas tested Johnstone with a low shot and with thirty-one minutes left,Michael Duff headed a stray ball over the bar.

JUNIOR STANISLAS doubled the lead to make the score more comfortable.Fifteen minutes left, and he slot under the goalkeeper.

The last real chance fell to Billy Sharp but he missed the target.

DONCASTER ROVERS 1-0 SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY

Chris Brown scored the only goal as Doncaster beat their local rivals Sheffield Wednesday, sending Paul Dickov's side eight points clear from the drop.

Wednesday missed the golden chance of the match.Leon Best shot wide from close range with Johnstone totally unaware.

The goal came through a period of withstanding the washout of rain on the field.Billy Sharp struck the ball underneath former Donny loanee Kirkland. With Lewis Buxton creeping up,CHRIS BROWN had to tap the ball into the goal.

The Owls want to keep up tier revival and nearly did.Albanian forward Nuhiu missed the header from a corner and Kieran Lee produced a fine save from Sam Johnstone with five minutes to go.

Johnstone was back with his wonders, punching away a twenty-yard hit from Maguire after neat setup work by Hutchinson.

With twenty minutes left,Glenn Loovens headed wide and Benik Afobe clattered into Sam Johnstone, injuring him.He soon recovered and was back playing.

The result was damaging for Wednesday but it's all smiles for Paul Dickov.

VIEWS FROM THE TOUCHLINE

DONCASTER BOSS PAUL DICKOV
"It's a combination of the clean sheet and the win that please me in particular.Individuals yet again played well  out there."

"James Coppinger is a good professional in terms of his attitude and can achieve anything. He and Chris Brown were superb."

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY BOSS STUART GRAY
“If you take your chances you win games and I’m sure, with the way we were playing, I would be talking here about three points instead of no points."

“Doncaster had one real chance in the first half and although we thought the lad Brown was offside, they took it."

The thing that's annoying me and the team is that we know we are better than that."

OPPONENTS GUIDE:SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY

The South Yorkshire derby between Doncaster and Sheffield Wednesday is always a highly contested one.The Owls have some famous fans, including Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner and MP David Blunkett.

The club were formed in 1867 as The Wednesday after the day they were created, and were originally cricketers back in 1820 until they became a football club and moved to Olive Grove.

The club became a key member in creating the Football League in 1889 and they reached the 1890 FA Cup Final losing 6-1 to Blackburn Rovers. They won the competition in 1896.

The club moved to current home Hillsborough in 1900 in Owlerton(hence the nickname The Owls). The club won the FA Cup in 1907 and the league title in 1928.Another FA Cup success was in 1935.

The club were in the top flight for the 1950s and won both the FA Cup and league in 1961.They suffered releagation in 1969/70 in painful circumstances and dropped to Division Three in 1974.Howard Wilkinson steered them back to the top flight in 1984 after Jack Charlton had failed elsewhere.

The 1989 Hillsborough Disaster saw a tragic event in football and the club's history, claiming 96 lives of Liverpool and Nottingham Forest fans in a FA Cup game.1993 was painful as The Owls lost in the FA Cup and the League Cup Final to Arsenal.David Pleat took over in 1995 but failed and was replaced by Danny Wilson in 1998.

The club sacked Wilson in 2000 following relegation to the second tier. The club flirted with relegation in the old Division One,and Chris Turner(ex-Wednesday player and hometown hero) was named manager in 2002.He couldn't save them and it was back to the third tier.

After a poor finish in Division Two and a bad start to the 2004/05 season,Paul Sturrock replaced Turner. He gained promotion with Wednesday to the Championship but was sacked in 2006 to be replaced by Brian Laws.

Laws left Wednesday in December 2009 due to financial strains and a poor start.Alan Irvine replaced him an despite an upturn,he couldn't save Wednesday from going down and they were back in League One in 2010.That same year,Milan Mandarić saved the club from administration by buying them.

Irvine was sacked in March 2011 due to a slump and Gary Megson was hired. He kept the club up and the 2011/12 season saw Wednesday third in the league. But,despite the position,he was fired and former Cardiff boss Dave Jones was asked to manage Wednesday.

He guided the Owls to automatic promotion and was unbeaten in League One,then kept the club in the second tier in 2013.It couldn't last-he was fired in December 2013 and coach Stuart Gray became caretaker. After a superb run,he was promoted to manager.

This season has been bumpy but the form is improving.Striker COALON LAVERY is nineteen but scored twice on his professional debut against Leeds and looks a good future talent.ADTHE NUHIU has played well and scored, the reward being a call up for Albania. The current top scorer is Scottish forward CHRIS MAGUIRE who has come back from a loan spell at Coventry.

THE GAFFER-STUART GRAY
53-year-old former left back Gray had a good playing career. He began at Nottingham Forest and then played for Barnsley,Aston Villa and Southampton in what was a thirteen year period as a player.

His first coaching role was at Wolves but he didn't settle,so joined Dave Jones at Southampton as a youth development manager in October 1997.He was made youth coach in 1998 and worked for Glenn Hoddle in 2000.

Gray was named Saints boss in 2001 but was sacked three months into his tenure. He then coached at Aston Villa and briefly as a scout at Crystal Palace. He was named assistant to Dave Jones at Wolves in 2003,but was sacked in November 2004 with him.

In 2007,he became Northampton Town manager. He spent two years at the club before he was sacked in 2009 due to poor form in League Two.He then coached at Burnley for Brian Laws and then Portsmouth with Guy Whittingham.

He was appointed coach at Sheffield Wednesday with Dave Jones again and after he was sacked by the board,Gray was named the new manager after an unbeaten run of eleven games.

TURNBULL BACK FROM THUMB INJURY

Ross Turnbull has reportedly began traing with the squad since he was sidelined with a thumb injury for a month.

The 29-year-old shot stopper was replaced by Sam Johnstone during his time out.Sam has played well and put in some superb performances since he joined on a loan deal from Manchester United.

Turnbull started a full match against Scunthorpe United for the reserves.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST 0-0 DONCASTER ROVERS

Doncaster tried hard to break down Forest with their counter attacks but couldn't connect in front of 27,000 fans. The away side deserved to win,but Forest will wonder how they drew.

The game started off slowly but Jamie Paterson had the game set after four minutes.Greg Halford crossed for Simon Cox,the Irishman left it for 21-year-old Paterson to pull a save out of Johnstone.

Five minutes later,Gonzalo Jara's low drive was inches away from the goal.Paterson had another drive but blasted high into the stands.A good start but Billy Davies was looking frustrated on his touchline due to the defensive work by Donny.

Forest tried again.Halford hit the post and Andy Reid's freekick was caught well by Sam Johnstone. The youngster is a good prospect so far.

The second half kicked off with a Rovers break.James Husband abused his pace to cross for Billy Sharp.Karl Darlow punched it away to Greening.

Doncaster attacked again.Wellens won a freekick taken by Cotterill,he found Sharp who produced a double save from Darlow and it was left to Halford to clear it to the flanks after sixty-five minutes.

In the last ten minutes,Husband broke again for Brown who headed wide.Forest were then left space for Majewski to run into-he didn't connect with others and selfishly struck for Johnstone to punch the ball out for a corner. The corner was taken quickly but struck over by Matt Derbyshire.

The last chance of the game fell to Majewski, and he hit over.Six games now since Forest last won, concerning the manager and chairman.

VIEW FROM THE TOUCHLINE

"We are annoyed by the draw because for twenty minutes of the match we played well.We feel as though we should've gotten more."

"Next weekend is the game against Derby and I anticipate that one."

DONCASTER BOSS PAUL DICKOV
"A clean sheet away from home and a draw against a side who are really desperate for promotion and an upturn in form is outstanding in my opinion. We are disappointed not to win."

"The defenders played a key role.Paul Quinn was excellent despite a small knock to the head but the work ethic can't be faulted."

"We are playing dangerous football and this intimidates teams as they cannot contain us defensively. It's good form for us to maintain."

DONCASTER ROVERS 2-1 WATFORD

A game which had turned focus towards Watford's aggression saw Billy Sharp steal the three points in a 2-1 win for Doncaster, who go seven points clear of the drop.

Watford's ever prolific frontman Troy Deeney wants to add to his goal tally. He didn't here though-a good pass by Merkel set up the striker and he saw his effort saved by Johnstone.

With the game over a quarter of a hour old,Watford saw red.Ranegie kicked James Husband in his left leg as a result of the latter bringing him down. With Watford down to ten men,it'd become harder.

It became harder when CHRIS BROWN headed Doncaster ahead with a perfectly-timed header past Jonathon Bond.Coppinger crossed the ball into the box and he rose highest to head home after twenty-three minutes.

Shortly after blasting a corner over,Watford had a case for a penalty.Troy Deeney seemed to have been pulled over by Sam Johnstone.Despite angry protests by the manager, the away side got nothing.

Watford's Merkel had a good chance after the break;his free-kick cannoned off the bar to Deeney who struck wide.

On sixty-four minutes,David Cotterill shot wide before Watford equalised.A loose ball was thrown into the box and IKECHI ANYA met hit first time, smashing it into the goal.

Rovers then really did crank up the pressure to an enormous extent.Duffy's corner was scrambled by Wellens for Brown and he had a tap tipped wide by Wales U21 goalkeeper Bond.

Not long after,Richie Wellens' superb run into the box produced a top class save by Bond who was full stretched.Paul Keegan came agonizingly close only for Lloyd Doyley to clear off the line.

The goal did come at the depth with BILLY SHARP nicking it in stoppage time.Mark Duffy ran into the box,had a shot saved by Bond for Sharp to tap the ball in.

VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

DONCASTER BOSS PAUL DICKOV
"That's now two wins on the trot following the 5-0 defeat at Bournemouth. When you say Rovers have  performed well considering the thrashing there, people would think you're lying."

"Sharp is a player who belongs here and up North in England. He can't play well down South and it's in his nature to play here."

DONCASTER ROVERS 2-0 HUDDERSFIELD TOWN

Billy Sharp scored as Doncaster beat their Yorkshire rivals to move four points clear of the drop. The home win was the first time the clubs had played at the Keepmoat since the 1st January 2007(Rovers' first match at the stadium).

Nahki Wells has been a useful yet prolific star of the squad for Huddersfield and wanted to impress. The Bermuda international striker evaded Paul Quinn but was stopped by Sam Johnstone.

After Alex Smithies had tipped Mark Duffy's shot over,a corner from the latter met Tamas. He supplied the ball to BILLY SHARP who tapped home after twenty-eight minutes.

In the second half,Adam Clayton wanted to add to his tally so far by aiming from twenty yards. It was really fruitless and he was off target.Gabriel Tamas then struck wide.

DAVID COTTERILL then scored the second on fifty-four minutes.Good work by Mark Duffy set up the Welshman to tap the ball into the goal.2-0.

After that, some good defending for the last thirty minutes of the game denied Huddersfield a goal and they only had one chance-Martin Paterson's angled strike saved.

VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

DONCASTER BOSS PAUL DICKOV
"We owed the fans some kind of apology for last week's defeat at Bournemouth. This was ideal."

"When a team put their bodies on the line in order to get a win,it's tough for the opponents to actually get something. Both goals were well taken in a composed manner."

HUDDERSFIELD BOSS MARK ROBINS
"It was clear Doncaster were both mentally and physically stronger on the field than us.It's humiliating to say that, but it's true."

"Doncaster wanted it more considering their league position is poor.We played toothless football and suffered. The 2000 fans who travelled are the ones I feel bad for."
