OPPONENTS GUIDE #18:BIRMINGHAM CITY(A)

The highs of the lifting the Carling Cup in 2011 seem all but a distant memory for the suffering fans of Birmingham City.Since their relegation in 2011 and two new managers later, they are currently 21st in the table.

The Blues were promoted back to the top flight in 2007 and survived in the league that season. They redeveloped the squad for the 2008/09 campaign, ending the season in 11th.The next season saw them sign the late Chuco Benitez on loan. The striker made a certain impact.

Shortly after Alex McLeish guided them to a famous 2-1 cup final win over Arsenal,he left for fellow rivals Aston Villa.Chris Hughton led the club through the Europa League and Championship, but was appointed Norwich City boss at the end of the season.Lee Clark was named his successor.

THE GROUND-ST ANDREWS
Located twenty minutes from the train station and four miles from the rivals West Bromich Albion, the stadium really is a 'proper ground'.Fans are welcomed into it with courtesy and the atmosphere is buzzing usually every matchday. Those who want to take a taxi,it will cost roughly £7.

THE GAFFER-LEE CLARK
Lee,Geordie born and bred, started his career at Newcastle, earning himself two spells by the River Tyne.He had also played for Fulham.Huddersfield Town appointed Lee in 2008 to succeed Stan Trenton and his big money signings of prolific Scot Jordan Rhodes aided the Terriers in their promotion campaign.

They had always been runners up in the playoffs though, and even though they were second in League One come February 2012,he was sacked.Birminghan hired him in 2012 and he has been successful so far in creating passionate play.

SIX OF THE BEST

DARREN RANDOLPH-GOALKEEPER
After his departure from SPL side Motherwell in June 2013,Darren had trialled at many clubs across the continent. He even went as far as Russia. But he decided to stay close to home, joining and becoming Birmingham's number one.

PAUL ROBINSON-DEFENDER
Veteran Paul spent a lot of his career in the top flight with Bolton Wanderers, even being their captain for two seasons. His contract with Bolton expired in 2012 following the relegation wage cut.He originally joined the Blues for a month as cover, but ended up extending that deal to two years. He currently captains the side.

JESSE LINGARD-MIDFIELDER
It was something of a dream debut for loanne Jesse. He started against Sheffield Wednesday, and in a 4-1 win scored all the four goals. He also scored two more times at St Andrews, making it six goals in eight-no bad to say he only turned professional in 2011.

CHRIS BURKE-MIDFIELDER
Scotland midfielder most notable for his time at Cardiff City.30-year-old Chris was known during his time in Wales for his long, powerful shots from range.Under Dave Jones' management,he had been a fans' favourite.Birmingham have benefited under him rapidly, and he scored 14 goals last season.

NIKOLA ŽIGIC-STRIKER
Croatian striker Nikola is more used to the highs of the La Liga table and the Spanish flow of the game.He had to get used to the high, and a few more lows,of the Premier League, partnering veteran striker Kevin Phillips.

PETER LØVENKRANDS-STRIKER
Known for his help in Newcastle's Championship promotion push of 2010,Danish Peter was a hit at Rangers where he made nearly 300 appearances. He then went to Russia and Schalke 04,before signing for Newcastle in 2009.
